The original site of St. Joseph County's first orphanage, which still stands today, at 911 Lincoln Way West in Mishawaka. On July 20, 1882, five little girls became the
first residents at the Faith House. Within its first year, 43 children from St. Joseph County were cared for at the Faith House. And by June of 1885, children were received from as many as seven neighboring counties.
Within a few years, the Faith House was no longer large enough to house the numbers of orphans in the region. The name was changed to Childrens Aid Society and a larger home was acquired at 549 Lincoln Way West, also in Mishawaka. Within the first twelve years, nearly 700 children were saved from homelessness.
