In 1899, the Children's Aid Society purchased 15 acres of land at the corner of Logan and Lincoln Way in Mishawaka for $10,000. One year later, the first construction project was completed making it possible to serve a significantly greater number of children than could its previous site. The new Orphan's Home would house an average of 200 children each year. This modest wood-framed building would eventually become a schoolhouse for the young orphans.
